The Great Laurel is a custom home that was
designed to meet a specific set of criteria but
without any particular family in mind. We
developed this unique house plan for a general
contractor in the North Carolina High Country
who was looking for a home design that would fit
a lot he had set aside for a premium spec house.
We worked closely with the contractor to come up
with a home that would showcase his best talents
as a builder. The resulting luxury home plans
portray 4500 square feet of awe-inspiring space,
including three gracious bedrooms, four and a
half baths, cathedral ceilings, a custom
kitchen, and a central stone hearth with four
fireplace openings on three levels of living
space. 2100 square feet of additional outdoor
living space are provided by the house’s
multi-tiered sprawling porches and decks. The
circular great room offers access to expansive
views of breathtaking mountain panoramas in a
way that’s sure to be unlike anything you’ve
ever seen.
Of course, we love to design homes with specific
clients in mind but this spec house was a joy to
work on since the builder who commissioned its
design shares so much of our love for spaces
that elevate the homeowners’ experience of
“home” as much as they meet a user’s critical
needs. We consider ourselves exceptionally lucky
to be in contact with a number of contractors in
our area who do excellent work and regard their
customers with as much respect as we do. We are
always happy to recommend craftsmen and builders
to all of our custom home clients.
